Rack, Finishing While building a small bookcase, I stumbled on an age-old problem: how to apply finish to all six sides and edges of the shelves in one sitting. (And, how to handle and store the freshly finished pieces until they dried.) This time, though, I figured out a solution.

Scrollsaw Auxiliary Table ...I made a smooth-sliding auxiliary top out of a piece of Plexiglass...The Plexiglas is the same size as the saw table and has a hole only a bit larger than the blade to provide more workpiece support. I attached it with spray adhesive.

Rack, Handsaw I own a small but very useful collection of handsaws. My problem was finding a handy and safe place to store them. The answer was a simple wall storage rack that keeps the saws out of the way but still easily accessible, as you can see in the photo.

Sharpening Guide I use sandpaper to sharpen my chisels. By “sanding” the bevel of the blade flat and smooth, it produces a sharp edge in just a few minutes. The problem is holding the chisel at a consistent angle as you sharpen. To do this, I clamp the chisel to a simple sharpening guide.

Rack for Drying Shelves Adjustable shelves can be a pain to finish. Since the top and bottom faces have to be finished separately, they can take twice as long to finish as any other part of a project. But here’s a drying rack that lets you hang the shelves vertically so the entire shelf can be finished in one shot. Best of all, it only takes a few minutes to build.
