Adjustable V-Block System (PDF) If you have ever tried to drill a hole in a dowel or odd-shaped object (like a turned leg), you probably know how frustrating a job it can be. It is a real challenge to hold these kinds of workpieces steady and accurately on the flat table of a drill press. And it is even trickier if you have to drill an angled hole. Usually, I wind up cobbling together some jury-rigged device to support the workpiece in question. But since building this adjustable V-block system, that is no longer a problem. The cutting diagrams and materials list are available to download in this Online Extra.

Drill Depth Stop Manufactured stop collars are great for drilling holes at a consistent depth. But they do not help keep the bit square to the board you are drilling into. So I made a simple depth stop jig in my shop that works for both.

Drill Press Fence In the past, I used to just clamp a board to my drill press table whenever I needed a fence. But trying to position the fence was awkward. So I came up with a fence design that is easier to use and incorporates a stop block.

Drill Press Inserts As any drill press user knows, trying to clamp a workpiece directly to the cast iron table can be trying. The reinforcing ribs on the underside of the table can sometimes make positioning and tightening a clamp nearly impossible. After struggling with this problem for far too long, I resolved to solve it.

Drill Press Jig for Wood Plugs This jig cuts plugs in long rows on narrow strips of wood, so there is minimal waste left around each plug. And once the plugs are cut, they can be stored on the long, thin strip or cut from the strip using a bandsaw.

Drill Press Stand A two drawer file cabinet can be easily converted to a drill press stand, most drills will require a base to raise the top of the cabinet to a convenient height. The locking drawers are an excellent place to store power tools out of the reach of small children that may frequent the work area.
