Pet Ramp Even when our pets get older, we still want them to join in family activities, but as mobility becomes more difficult jumping in and out of the car can tax their joints - especially if its a taller car such as a 4WD. You need a ramp like this one, designed to hook over the back lip of the station wagon or 4WD so your pet can walk up or down the ramp in small non-jarring steps rather than jumping.

Raft, Swim A swim raft is the perfect solution; it answers my need for somewhere relatively easy to get to; provides longer ultraviolet exposure for sun-worshipping cottagers whose shorelines lie in afternoon shade; is a refuge from the busy dock when the waterskiers take over; and the kids see it as yet another place to play.

Ramp, Building an Accessibility Being able to get in and out of your house is probably the first and most important thing to address when trying to make your home more accessible. It is a practical matter as well as a personal one, because once you can get in and out of your house more easily you do not feel as trapped and dependent on others.

Resawing on the tablesaw Resawing is cutting thin pieces of wood from a thick piece of stock. (In effect, ripping on edge.) A quick way to do this is on the table saw. Before you get started though, there are two safety precautions that are a must. First, to reduce the chance of kickback, use a zeroclearance insert with a splitter (see Photo at this site). Second, be sure to use a push block when making a cut.
