Shed, Backyard Corn Crib (Storehouse) Here is a scaled-down version of an old-time, hopper-shaped, slat-sided whole-corn crib that you can build for under $250 using new materials or for a fraction of that with recycled materials. It is built by using a simple, sturdy vertical-board box crib as a frame and hanging nonstructural angled wood-furring-strip walls off the rafters. The roof is made from trusses (prefabbed on-site), and complex joints are made using 2 x 4-sized metal construction plates fastened with fat plate nails or short deck screws.
