Chair, Adirondack The combination of straight lines, flat planes and gentle curves that is the signature of the Adirondack chair is familiar even to those who have never had the good fortune to visit the Adirondack Mountains of New York state. While many variations on the Adirondack chair can be found, the essential spirit of the chair has not changed much from its earliest form as outdoor seating for modest cabins, rustic mountain hotels and elegant “great camps,” as luxurious mountain retreats were known in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Chair, Adirondack (PDF) The distinctive Adirondack chair takes its name from the high country in upstate New York in the US. Made from hardwood timber, it’s a lawn chair which features a combined seat support and back leg, giving it the lines that just make you want to put it under a tree, grab a book and a nice long drink and forget the world around you. While they are fun to make, they can be a little fiddly and some experience in woodwork would be a great help.
